We are in Povoação, where the first settlers of the Azores arrived in the 14th century.

In the northeast, among winding roads surrounded by greenery and the blue sea, the journey is one of awe and enchantment.

Just like people, boats have their own names. Often, these names evoke family members or places to which their owners have a deep emotional connection.

Dried fava beans at the Mercado da Graça, in the centre of Ponta Delgada. Dried legumes were a way to preserve agricultural goods and food at a time when refrigeration did not exist. The drying process concentrates the flavour of the fava, known as Fava Rica.

During the Feast of Senhor Santo Cristo dos Milagres, agricultural goods and livestock donated by the community are auctioned to raise money for the less fortunate. It is a tradition that blends the sacred and the profane.
